GIS-121 Working with labels

I learned a lot with this lab- like do not convert your labels to annotation until AFTER you have printed your map at least once and made all major changes to your labels that you would like to. Because once it has been converted, it's more time consuming to make the same changes (or I just haven't figured out how yet. :) ) I've learned that you can spend many hours just getting your labels "just so" and then look at it later and decide there are more changes that need to be made. I'm sure that once I start looking at everyone's maps, I will see tons of things that I will wish I had thought to do. So, I hope you enjoy, maybe see something you like. I look forward to reading your comment. Please be constructive, I want to learn to do this better.

  1. Nice map. The colors of the states and water features read nicely. Only suggestion (minor) is that you probably don't need the states labeled in the legend since you have such good colors and clear labels.

  2. Nice color choices. Not sure I would italicize the county names, but that's probably just preference. I'd also match the background of your arrow/scale box with the background color on your legend. Great use of space.

  3. I like it. Good colors. There might be a few creek labels that could have been moved to be more readable. At this stage of our experienc in doing maps we can't expect to see every detail that needs to be adjusted. Good job.

  4. Good map. I'm not a big fan of the North arrow / scale being in the top right. Map needs a title.
